Location: Vontovorona (MADAGASCAR)
Start of Project: January 2014
Beneficiaries: 30 children, two groups of 10 children aged 8 to 16 living in the shelter. In addition, 7 other children come to Yamuna every afternoon and to enjoy a snack, dinner and are able to do their homework. Nessy is the foster mother who cares for all children.
Description: Yamuna’s Children’s Shelter is the result of a severe economic downturn suffered by the organization that led to the forced and reluctant closure of the Tsinjo Centre in 2013. The Tsinjo Centre hosted children derived by the court of justice of the capital. This led to the outsourcing of nearly 55 from the 70 boys and girls. We sought the best solution for each of the children, avoiding the separation of siblings or close friends. We continue sponsoring these children to be able to regularly monitor and improve their living conditions. These children are now hosted either with a member of their extended family or in another center. Every year, during summer holidays, Yamuna organizes summer camps for 10 days so they can all get together.
