NGO helping children in India and Madagascar Facebook Twitter YouTube

Location: Calcutta (India)

Project start: October 2005.

Beneficiaries: 140 school girls from the KHANNAHIGH SCHOOL in Calcutta.

Poverty and social inequalities still prevent women from developing their full potential, promoting male supremacy in society. Society is based on patriarchal values and traditional values of community, family, caste, virginity, etc. The life of a single woman or widow is immoral. Girls' education is the way forward to get out of the cycle of poverty and submission.

Yamuna decided to support girls' education in Calcutta, without which they would not have had the opportunity to study. Families without resources prioritize the education of boys while the girls are forced to get to work reducing their opportunities in the future. A voluntary from Yamuna travels every year in India to monitor the proper functioning of the project. 140 girls have benefited from the program.
